Preaching makes Dharma dogmatic
Preaching about God is very common these days especially in the religious cultures that follow Sanatana Dharma. However a lot of preaching styles have crept into various aspects of the Dharma as well as in discussing the glories of God akin to the preaching that exists in Abrahamic systems. Especially in the context of Sanatana Dharma, this is not a very good preference of preaching styles. Sanatana Dharma is a system of seeking and much less, a system of preaching. Sanatana Dharma has many teachings no doubt, but the profundity of the System is subjective, experiential, personal, intimate and not one that is suitable for preaching, not the least. What preaching can utmost do is to make the principles dogmatic, bombastic, amplified, over-the-top and above all driven, by blind faith and influenced by the personal enigma of the preacher colored by the figment of the both the preacher’s persona and imagination.
Sanatana Dharma is about Seeking, Not Preaching
As the preaching of a particular preacher becomes more prevalent and reaches a larger crowd, the teaching is more than lost and ingredients of “other” faith systems creep in, heavily diluting the rich essence of the Dharma. This is because, the preacher is human. The moment he rises to fame and popularity, he is eager to make his preaching more interesting rather than effective, that which will pull and engage large crowds. He includes jokes, a flurry of personal anecdotes, personal preference driven motives played to the galleries and what not. This is when, the essence of Truth gets replaced by fantastic fiction. Sanatana Dharma is an experiential system and taken up by an individual who has been already been heavily belabored by Maya, in such a way that he is unable to take the hammerings, having spent ageless lifetimes under the shadow of ignorance and dogmatism. Now, preaching Sanatana Dharma cannot transmit even an iota of power. It all depends on personal deliberation through a silent organized system of a Master and Disciple relationship, maintained by the power of Dharma, where a one-to-one hand-holding may be required. All this said, there is still no guarantee that the seeker shall reach the destination. Sanatana Dharma does not guarantee this, it never has.
Preaching cannot take you back Home
Sanatana Dharma is a totally involved form of enlightening path that is supposed to strike and wake up the seeker in spurts, into realization with the growing capabilities of the seeker who has already been battered by material energy either in this lifetime or earlier ones. Battering of Maya over many lifetimes is the only real tonic for a deluded soul. When the tonic takes full effect, the living entity has no resort other than being born in a culture that promotes pure Vedic Dharma or Sanatana Dharma. There may be other souls who may be born in alien cultures and systems but who turn to Sanatana Dharma in their current bodies not influenced by any particular Guru, Acharya or preaching but by the call of the Spirit alone. This bent can never be initiated solely by preaching, conversion or influence. It simply dawns like lightening that it is time to go home and that the passage towards home is hidden in the alleys of Sanatana Dharma alone. This realization, the soul stumbles upon by the Will of God also known as Grace. Now, how can preaching help in the whole process? It can only make things worse when half-baked, half-ready people who have little or no internal understanding or realization of the principles of the Dharma take to preaching Dharma on behalf of many organizations who themselves try to promote certain narrow selective aspects of Dharma even with the exclusion of fundamental principles propounded in the Vedic Scriptures, which the preaching team finds uncomfortable and inexplicable to the general crowd. Now, such is the nature of Sanatana Dharma. Everything cannot be preached or explained.
Position of a True Sadhaka
Vedic or Sanatana Dharma is the very fountain of consciousness which is vast and immense. It cannot be preached or propounded. It may have many infinite teachings. Unless a sadhaka who has devoted his entire life in the adoption, understanding and realization of the Dharma, has lived these principles, he can never become qualified for preaching. He can never be. The great thing about the Sanatana System is that when the sadhaka or spiritual practitioner become suffused and drenched with the values of the Dharma, he becomes utterly silent and relaxed. He shall see that the universe is self-sufficient and perfect and that he is ill-qualified to preach. A point of guidance can only arise within the context of Sanatana Dharma when a seeker is born within the living entity. Then again, it is up to Natural circumstances, force of Karma, prayers, Grace, Divine interventions that come into play when the Guru meets the seeker. Even when the Guru is there, Nature makes multiple arrangement to teach and deliver the intricate and deep teachings into a very personal mode and format, known and realized only by the seeker and maybe by the Guru guiding the disciple, but to none else. This is how Dharma is transmitted.
Preaching in Sanatana Dharma is a myth
Talk around Dharma, teachings of the Dharma, Views and opinions are no doubt transmitted and communicated by the Will of God. However the teachings can never be translated as verdicts or Preaching. Preaching in the true spirit of Sanatana Dharma is simply a myth. Sanatana Dharma may recommend certain ways to the common folks but they cannot translate as commandments or divine order. Unless experimentation, personal spiritual experiences and value of the system is internalized and realized, Sanatana Dharma can never retain its original form. The moment someone starts preaching the Dharma, it shall qualify the preaching as personal opinions and not as some universal law which has anything to do with the real form of the Sanatana Dharma. The real form of Sanatana Dharma is available only at the end of the journey when it is received in utter silence and gratitude.
